EMA and LAUSD: GET TO KNOW YOUR LOCAL SCHOOL GARDENS
Brooklyn Early Education Center
The Brooklyn Early Education Center is a year-round pre-school for children. Its garden, a favorite of the students, supplements the development and socialization skills taught. The garden, 25 feet by 15 feet wide, boasts many crops including tomatoes, artichokes, strawberries, spices, grapes, and herbs.
Created by Dwayne Sherman and other teachers at the Center, funds were raised to build the fence and purchase some plants. The garden also relies heavily on donations from other schools such as North Hollywood High School’s agricultural department.
The garden program at Brooklyn Early Ed is a demonstration site for The Outdoor Classroom as well as the LAUSD. Despite being a demonstration site because of its success with students, the garden constantly battles a shortage of funding.
Emily VanCamp, mentor to Brooklyn, helped the chidlren plan seeds that will eventually be transplanted into the garden.

Brooklyn harvests corn, strawberries and tomatoes. Mr Fluffy (bunny) enjoys the garden as well.

Grape arbor: provides shade and delicious grapes. They have really come a long way!

The playground contains homemade planters filled with flowers and plants, as well as misters that lower the playground's temperature.

Such a cute tool shed!
