the little seed

When three new moms got together to talk about creating environmentally safe spaces for their kids, an idea was hatched. Why not create an eco-friendly baby store where parents could trust that everything purchased would be safe and non-toxic yet sophisticated and hip for their baby?

Once having their children, Paige Goldberg Tolmach, Beth Birkett, and Soleil Moon Frye realized they were looking at the world with completely new eyes. Shocked by the discovery that environmental pollutants in the home are just as toxic as environmental pollutants outside of the home, they put their heads and hearts together to come up with a plan that would take care of their families and friends while taking care of the planet. the little seed is the result of that plan.

When Paige's son Jackson developed extreme allergies by four months of age, no doctor could help her figure out the cause. Insisting that Jackson’s allergies were genetic and could be treated by steroids only, Paige refused to listen and decided to take matters into her own hands. She spent hours researching allergic reactions and discovered the truth about our environment. She tossed everything out of his nursery –- his furniture, his crib mattress, his bedding, his clothing and toys and replaced them with organic and eco-friendly alternatives. Within no time, Jackson’s allergies disappeared. She then knew it would be her mission to help other moms like her.

Beth Birkett spent many years as a fashion designer and stylist. As a working mother she struggled to be a hands on mom and focus on her career. By the time her second child Ishmael was born, she found herself not having the same energy she did with the first. She would read magazines featuring green products, but didn't know where to buy them. She wanted to give her children the best, yet didn't know where to turn for guidance. She wanted to find a place where everything she needed could be under one roof.

Soleil Moon Frye has been a long time board member of EMA and has incorporated a green way of living into her life for many years. After giving birth to her daughter Poet, she had so many questions about motherhood, but didn't always know where to turn. Soleil searched for organic alternatives in her home wanting to give Poet as many healthy options as possible and knew in her heart she wasn't alone. Soleil wanted to merge the love of her child with her love of the world around her.

Together Paige, Beth, and Soleil realized that the little seed would be a new beginning for the way we shop for our children. The mission of the little seed is simple: to help parents create a healthy environment for their families. To show them how to make simple shifts in their home that will make dramatic shifts in their lives. Bringing together the world of furniture, fashion, products, and toys with an environmental twist, and, ultimately, helping to make our planet a little greener.
