ECO-CONSCIOUS G2 GALLERY SHOWCASES WORK BY RENOWNED ENVIRONMENTAL PHOTOGRAPHER ROBERT GLENN KETCHUM

World-renowned photographer and environmentalist Robert Glenn Ketchum is currently featured in an exhibit at G2 Gallery in Venice, CA. Together, G2 and Ketchum are working to support and promote conservation, education, and Cuyahoga Valley National Park appreciation of our natural environment.

One of the leading environmental photographers in the United States, Robert Glenn Ketchum began his career as a rock photographer to the stars. Now, as an author, teacher, and photographer, Ketchum is dedicated to supporting the environment through his work, addressing issues such as deforestation, clean air and water, management of federal lands, rural gentrification and the preservation of wilderness. In conjunction with his traveling photography exhibit, Ketchum lectures widely on the subject of Alaskan fisheries, hoping to prevent the most productive wild salmon fishery in the world from being destroyed by offshore oil and gas development and onshore mining.

A long-time supporter of EMA, Ketchum’s ongoing commitment to the environment has earned him much critical acclaim, including being named one of American Photo magazine’s 100 most important people in photography; being featured as one of Audubon’s 100 people who shaped the environmental movement in the 20th Century; and receiving the Ansel Adams Award for Conservation Photography from the Sierra Club. Recognized by George H.W. Bush, King Gustaf, and the President of Brazil for his powerful work, Ketchum received the United Nations’ Outstanding Environmental Achievement Award. He was also the first visual artist in residence at the Sundance Film Festival, where he was personally invited by Robert Redford to display his photography. These acknowledgements recognize a 40-year career during which Ketchum’s photography, writing, media campaigns and personal lobbying efforts have focused public attention on national environmental issues and assisted the passage of significant legislation.

G2 Gallery is a natural fit to showcase Ketchum’s work. “G2 is a unique gallery in Los Angeles because it is willing to risk exhibiting artists whose work is intentionally purposeful and addresses critical environmental issues. These contributors to our visual culture have clearly been stifled by Post-modern trends and the academy of institutional curators that have ignored their contributions,” said Ketchum. Along with Ketchum’s work, G2 has featured exhibitions by other distinguished environmental photographers, including Larry Ulrich, Jim Stinson, David and Marc Muench, Thomas Mangelsen and Frans Lanting.

As an environmentally conscious gallery dedicated to inspiring artists, activists and the broader community to conserve our planet, G2 Gallery intends to educate its clients about how to incorporate eco-friendly materials into their own homes and businesses. G2’s interior space features bamboo flooring, recycled carpet, low-VOC paint and recycled tree trunk stools in its screening room. G2 offers its gallery space and screening room to local schools for educational field trips and donates proceeds from a percentage of its sales to environmental charities, including the Environmental Media Association.

The current exhibit at G2 features Ketchum’s environmental photography as well as re-introduced images from his Sundance residence. Also on display are Ketchum’s large-scale panel embroideries, translated from his photography and reaching up to six feet in height. The exhibit runs through November 30, 2008.

G2 Gallery is located at 1503 Abbot Kinney Blvd. in Venice, CA. For information on Robert Glenn Ketchum’s exhibit, please call 310-452-2842 or visit the Gallery’s website, www.theg2gallery.com
