HOLLYWOOD, Calif. - Whale Rider, The West Wing, King of the Hill, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Scout's Safari, Everwood, Valley at the Crossroads and Fenceline: A Company Town Divided were winners at the 13th Annual Environmental Media Awards held on Wednesday, November 5th at the Ebell Theatre in Hancock Park. Celebrities from film, television and music were among the more than 800 guests at the gala event sponsored by Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. The Environmental Media Association (EMA) Awards recognize the creative teams behind television, film and music productions that expand public awareness of environmental issues.

The inaugural EMA Futures Award was presented to Edward Norton by Hawk Koch. EMA created the Award to celebrate an individual just hitting their stride in terms of environmental commitment and activism. The honor was given to Edward for the work he is doing with the Enterprise Foundation, EMA and the BP Solar Neighbors Program™. The EMA Futures Award respects the honorees' work to date and anticipates their future philanthropy.

The EMA Missions in Music Award was given to the dedicated humanitarian and environmentalist, Alanis Morissette. Alanis has used her voice to speak out regarding energy issues, social injustice and tolerance. She encourages her fans to be pro-active in protecting the environment.

The West Wing "Privateers" won for TV Episodic Drama. King of the Hill "I Never Promised You an Organic Garden" was the winner in the TV Episodic Comedy category. The EMA Award for Children's TV Animated went to Clifford the Big Red Dog "Lights Out." Scout's Safari "Fathers" won for Children's TV Live Action. Whale Rider was awarded the EMA for Feature Film. The Documentary Short Award went to Valley at the Crossroads. Fenceline: A Company Town Divided won the Documentary Feature Award. EMA presented the Turner Prize to Everwood, which represented the television episode that best addressed the issues relating to population growth. Past winners of the Turner Prize include 3rd Rock from the Sun, Boston Public, Chicago Hope, ER, Home Improvement, NYPD Blue and That 70's Show.

Rob Schneider hosted the star-studded Awards Ceremony. Among the Presenters were: Ed Begley, Jr., Hart Bochner, Larry Joe Campbell, Dana Delany, Miguel Ferrer, Frances Fisher, Soleil Moon Frye, Jeff Garlin, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Wendie Malick, Sara Rue, Amy Smart, David Spade, Amber Tamblyn, Jeffrey Tambor, Wilmer Valderrama, Julie Warner and Constance Zimmer.

Unlike any other Hollywood Award Ceremony, this one was the merging of culinary excellence with organic responsibility. In keeping with EMA's commitment to honor and respect the planet, the dinner was an excellent organic experience prepared by LA's top celebrity chefs. The talents of Akasha Richmond (Akasha's Visionary Cuisine), Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger (Border Grill & Ciudad), Mark Peel & Nancy Silverton (Campanile & La Brea Bakery), Ben Ford (Chadwick Catering), Neal Fraser (GRACE), Alan Jackson & Hallee Gould (Jackson's Somerset Catering), Suzanne Tracht (Jar), Joe Miller (Joe's), Ann Gentry & David Anderson (Real Food Daily), Chris Blobaum (Surf & Sand Resort), Govind Armstrong (Table 8) and Jim Whitney (Whole Foods Market), complemented the celebration for the entertainment and environmental communities. They all worked together with food donated by Whole Foods Market. The event continued our tradition of a hip, fun scene that also educates and inspires.

The EMA Awards Ceremony was also a showcase for all things green --- from an earth friendly silent auction, to the keepsake Tribute/Green Business Journals on recycled paper with soy ink, to the biodegradable straws for beverages and the use of cloth banners and signs. While elegant, the star-studded event succeeded in incorporating environmental concerns whenever possible. The Los Angeles Conservation Corps facilitated recycling & resource recovery. A concerted effort was made by all to conserve, reuse, renew and recycle. All food items not served were donated to Angel Harvest, Inc. and distributed to local shelters. Honorees arrived to the event in Evo Limos. Evo is the first and only environmentally responsible luxury car service featuring a fleet of SUV's powered by clean, compressed natural gas. Welcoming an alternative fuel solution for their luxury transportation needs, Evo has been the service of choice for a growing list of environmentally responsible entertainers and executives in Los Angeles. Presenters and other attendees arrived in the Toyota Prius.

As the Presenting Sponsor, Toyota Motor Sales' commitment to future technology is nothing less than extraordinary. With more than 140,000 of the wildly popular Toyota Prius gas/electric hybrid cars on the road, Toyota is now introducing its second-generation Prius. The 2004 Prius is bigger, more powerful, more fuel-efficient and nearly 90 percent cleaner than the average vehicle on the road. As a corporation, Toyota's attention to environmental concerns is stellar.

Partner Sponsor for this year's Ceremony was bp solar. Their commitment to solar, low sulfur fuel and alternative energy makes them a stand out in their field. Other event sponsors included: Audubon Society, Aveda, Bonterra Vineyards, CAA, Earthbound Farm, Endeavor, Fox Studios, Guess?, Inc., Odwalla, Organic Valley Family of Farms, Silk Soymilk, Seventh Generation, The Patron Spirits Co., Tiffany & Co., Trinity Springs Water, Universal, The Walt Disney Co., Warner Bros., Whole Foods Market and ZAND.
