14th ANNUAL ENVIRONMENTAL MEDIA AWARDS On Wednesday, November 17, 2004, the Environmental Media Association (EMA) Awards will honor the creative teams behind film and television productions that expand public awareness of environmental issues at The Ebell Club of Los Angeles. The 14th Annual EMA Awards are presented to recognize outstanding use of environmental themes in the following categories: Television Episodic Comedy, Television Episodic Drama, Children's Animated Television, Children's Live Action Television, Documentary Feature, Documentary Short and Feature Film. In addition, the Turner Award, initiated by the Turner Foundation, is presented to the writer(s) of a prime time television episode that best deals with the issue of population growth or the empowerment of women. The Awards Ceremony, which attracts a who's who list of entertainment executives and Hollywood celebrities, will, once again, highlight an organic gourmet menu and an environmentally themed silent auction. To celebrate the environmental message, the organic gourmet dinner will be prepared by premier Los Angeles chefs including, Akasha Richmond (Akasha's Visionary Cuisine), Susan Feniger & Mary Sue Milliken (Border Grill & Ciudad), Mark Peel (Campanile), Ben Ford (Chadwick Catering), Louis Pechan (The Ebell Club of Los Angeles), Suzanne Tracht (Jar), Joe Miller (Joe's), Govind Armstrong (Table 8), Jim Whitney (Whole Foods Market), Chris Blobaum (Wilshire) and for our vegan guests, Ann Gentry (Real Food Daily). The EMA Awards atmosphere is one that is not only hip and fun, but educational and inspiring as well. Some of the creatively prepared organic dishes served at last year's event included, Braised Pork and Clams, Portuguese Style; Oaxacan Chicken with Mole Negro; Coriander and Anise Crusted Salmon with Mascarpone; Jar Pot Roast with Organic Valley Beef; Tuna with Three-Color Baby Beets and Wasabi Tabiko Caviar; Savory French Toast with Olive Oil-Poached Portabella Mushrooms, Bosc Pears and Red Wine-Caramel Sauce; Moroccan Spiced Rack of Lamb with Fruited Couscous; and Grilled Chicken on Short Rib Hash with Roasted Cipollini Onion Jus. This year, The Board of Directors Ongoing Commitment Award will honor the highly respected actress, Daryl Hannah, for her lifelong dedication to living a sustainable and humanitarian lifestyle. The Missions in Music Award will be presented to Willie Nelson for his passionate take on activism and dedicated commitment to family farms and environmental causes. In addition a special honor will be given to KNBC and their "4 Our Planet" campaign, which launched in 2003 in partnership with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works.
