EMA and LAUSD: GET TO KNOW YOUR LOCAL SCHOOL GARDENS
Westminster Avenue Elementary School
The Westminster Ave. Elementary garden is one part of a huge transformative effort to green the entire school’s campus. What started as a 2,400 square foot plot of land was quickly outgrown and the garden is now around 6,000 sq. feet in size and looking to add another 6,000 feet of planting space.
The garden is open to the students throughout the day and all students and there are all sorts of crops for them to sample. The garden has grown strawberries, blueberries, potatoes, squash, tomatoes, peppers, beans, herbs, flowers, pumpkins and has both fig and citrus trees.
The garden has also benefitted from community involvement as huge numbers of parents and civic minded neighbors come out and help at each of the work day parties hosted by the garden.

Rosario Dawson planted seeds with the students of Westminster during her visit.

Rosario also showed off her hoola hoop skills!

The Westminster garden lines the streets of Venice, providing locals with a view of its fruits, vegetables and plants. This photo shows the garden undergoing seasonal construction.

From this view of the garden, one can clearly see the progress made over the last year, with funding, donations and hard work.
